The first thing I thought upon finding this photo was of the Becher's straight-on photographs of houses and water towers

wonderfully grounding

and there is the remnant of an old sticker on the underside of the base that looks like a hand-written price in foreign currency

I am pretty certain this lacquered papier mache box was made to be used as a snuff box and dates to the late 19th or very early 20th century
