SOLD RR's 1836 Red and White Darning Sampler on Homespun Linen in Period Gilded Frame with Original Glass homemade fishing 75" diameter x 1/2" tallI love darning samplers of many sorts, and this a very sweet one, American I believe, on homespun linen, signed RR and dated 1836. The finished edges show that it was not cut down from a larger sampler this is all there ever was and it is backed in the frame by another piece of homespun. I'll just never get over the beauty of the patterns on darning samplers like this showing skills for making darns (mends) to match different types weaves of fabric.
