D. westwardly This is the famous Gallatin map that Wheat speaks so favorably about. Gallatin had made a long study of the Indian tribes and published this map locating the tribes historically. The map has ten colors and these are used to locate the various tribes and was the earliest map to do so and thus he is called the father of American Ethnology.
